Mike Eaton, our friend and former colleague will be an occasional contributor and Facebook Live guest for our Deanly Chat blog. Michael Eaton is an expert in campus safety and security for K-12 schools as well as college campuses. This view is supported by many of his peers who have sought his advice and counsel over the years. Mike is frequently asked to speak at conferences and conventions throughout the U.S. Additionally, he is in demand as a consultant on school safety, providing assessments and recommendations for educational institutions in several states and municipalities.

Beyond his extensive professional experience, Mike and his family have unfortunately had their own personal experience with the scourge of school violence. Two of Mike’s sons were students in class at Arapahoe High School on December 13, 2013 when an active shooter came on campus, placing his own kids in harm’s way.  Mike offers lessons from his personal and professional experiences where he uniquely provides insights into how each student and family can take steps to help protect their own well-being as well as those around them.

Currently Mike is the Chief of the Department of Safety for Denver Public Schools where he has also worked closely with the city to ensure a supportive presence of local police on campuses. He is also the President of the Colorado Association of School Safety Law Enforcement Officials; and serves as Adjunct Faculty at Regis University. Previously Mike served for several years as the Director of Safety and Security for Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colorado. He received his Masters of Public Administration from the University of Colorado and his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Johnson & Wales University.
